Tamara Ball Profile

Post-doctoral Research Fellow, Institute for Scientist & Engineer Educators and Sustainable Engineering and Ecological Design Group, UC Santa Cruz

Dr. Ball’s research focuses on out-of-school learning environments and co-curricular innovations in higher education that emphasize learner agency, initiative and ownership. Currently she is working with ISEE as a post-doctoral research fellow to publish results of a two-year study on a science and engineering internship program sponsored by the Center for Adaptive Optics. This work focuses on the characteristics of learning environments that support and constrain participation in scientific argumentation. In collaboration with other ISEE fellows, she plans to use the outcomes of this work to contribute to the design or revision of learning and assessment activities included in the CfAO Communication Curriculum.
